Default 6.8 Rem SPC Contender Carbine?

Anybody shooting this caliber? I'm considering another T/C Contender carbine barrel for an ultra light hunter, and this "special purpose" caliber looks like it may indeed be a very interesting general purpose round for everything from varmints to whitetails out to maybe 250 yards or more. I'm a little concerned about availability of suitable lightweight non-varmint hunting bullets for reloading, but other than that this cartridge sure appears promising. Thoughts? Experiences?

I agree that it is an interesting cartridge. The only other caliber to fill that niche that comes immediately to mind for the Contender is the 250 Savage. I checked TC's website, and they don't offer barrels in the caliber (or 257 Roberts), so it'd cost a bit more to go that route. Brass would probably cost more more too.

I have a Ruger mini in 6.8 SPC. Great caliber I wish ammo would come down a little. I am paying around $20 a box for Hornady. Wolf would make a killing if they loaded some cheap 6.8

Thanks, everybody. Dipper, those sites look especially promising. Trouble is, now I want a 6.8 Contender barrel and a 6.8 M4 Carbine, and a 6.8 heavy match rifle .... want, want, want vs. need ....

LOL, me too!!

SSA ammo is generally regarded as the best ammo out there for the 6.8.... it shoots WAY better in my AR Performance upper than Hornady.

That 6.8 Forums link had EVERYTHING there is to know about the 6.8.... check out the classifieds there.... there is usually a lot of barrels, uppers and rifles for sale there.
