Every mag base plate I have seen is secured by the small rails and the spring pressure, some with a notch or tab.

I carry my LCP in a Deantis Nemisis and have never had that problem, never.

I think that you made the right choice going for the LCP. I bought a Sig P238 in July 2009 and had nothing but problems with it. Sig customer service is not the best. At the last gun show in Raleigh, I noticed someone looking at a P238 and I told him my P238 troubles. He decided to look at something else. Some people get a P238 that works, I did not.

The Sig P238 has better sights but if it fails to chamber a round, what good are the sights?

I must have gotten a good Sig. I noticed that if you do not have a firm grip, you simply must grip more firmly the smaller the pistol is, that sometimes I would have a FTF, after discovering the problem was me, I have not had a single issue since.

To be clear, the pocket holster did not cause the issue. The base plate just would work off in my pocket while in the holster.

It shot great though but why take a chance.

Must have been a defective mag, I have never had an issue with any of mine. But I can understand your hesitance.

My LCP is one of the first batch that hit stores. Got it in April of 08. SN in the 4200 range. I've fired approximately 1K rounds through it. Most of those prior to the ammo crunch of 08/09. Went through the recall and back in about a week (8 days IIRC).
I've carried it near daily in a pocket holster from www.rkbaholsters.com. Occasionally lately in a Crossbreed Minituck. I put a CT laser on it about a year ago (I think). It's never failed to feed, fire, or eject. I've never had any magazine issues out of the 4 mags I have for it. Other than a little bluing wear on the corners you'd think it was a new gun.

Default FTE in my LCP Anyone else? What did you do?

I picked up a new LCP at the F'ville gun show last weekend. Picked it up mainly to have a more concealable alternative to my Glock 30 with some types of dress.

Had an FTE on the first mag and the problem continued as I attempted to fire Remington, Aguila, and American Eagle FMJs and JHPs. Thought it may be the mag.....Contacted Ruger........ received a new mag Thursday, and still had two FTEs after about 200 rounds break in. It certainly improved with the new mag but I still want to trust it more. Anyone else have this issue? May wind up sending it to Ruger.

One thing that is REALLY important with the smaller guns is that "the smaller the gun is, the firmer the grip needs to be".

For some reason, probably the weight issue, if you do not put a firm grip, firmer than you do with a sub-compact or full-size, you WILL have issues.

If you want, come on up to Fay sometime and we will go to the wildlife club and shoot...maybe we can figure out what the problem is.

I have an LCP and the ONLY issue I have ever had is that I need someone there when I shoot it....I reload and that sucker throws the brass so far that I have a hard time finding it...thus, the extra person, or should I say spotter...LOL

Yup, agree. I had a buddy having a lot of the same sounding problems and it was his grip too. He was keeping his wrist to loose and his grip was not firm enought.

I have shot about 500 rounds out of mine and I have never had a single problem.

Good luck, keep us posted if you get it worked out.

Thanks for the response and info guys...... I may need to take a trip to F'ville to take notes. I love the size and concealability of the LCP and have enjoyed great performance from my other Rugers. Guess I got spoiled with my Glock eating everything you feed it without a hiccup.

Keep posting any corrections or tips for handling and grip........ maybe I can get it right.

Default butt plate working off

If you have a Ruger LCP you shouldn't ever have that problem.. It takes quite the effort to get it off trying... I always have to use a pick or Glock tool to remove the butt plate..
