I kept getting the 'thank you for your email, Deborah' emails, so I replied back as thus:
> I appreciate the reply, however you did not address my questions below. > Please notify me of your actions on this matter and how and when it will > be resolved. I have received a few 'thank you for you email' replies, > yet there has been no action on your part. I started cc'ing both addys. Rep. Deborah K. Ross wrote: > Shannon. > > It has not yet been scheduled. It passed crossover and will still be > eligible for a hearing next year. Not sure what is controversial about this bill as it passed the Senate 42-2 in favor. Seems if it was controversial, there would be a much larger ney vote than 2. This is a protection bill for the citizens. Please schedule a hearing as soon as possible and do not delay. Thank you for your service, Shannon Rep. Deborah K. For those of you in Wake county, can you enlighten me? Did she win by a huge margin? I am curious as to why she is so completely unconcerned about listening to her contituents. Does she not have anyone running against her?

Ross is a lapdog for the North Carolinians Against Gun Violence.
At least the bill is FAR from dead. As Rep Ross pointed out she can bring it up next year. I think she will have to if she does not this year. |

Ray,
What in the world has Rep. Ross done that would indicate that she will move this bill forward in her life time, let alone ‘next year’? Can does not mean will, as you stated she is a lapdog for the North Carolinians Against Gun Violence. She can move the bill forward this year, yet she won’t. Not dead? There were eight 2A bills that never made it out of committee this year;. The Castle Doctrine, Restaurant Carry, and Carry in Parks are the big ones. They passed the CCW Renewal bill, which really doesn’t earn us any more Rights, it was just a timing issue in my eye’s. Rep Ross is already shaking that in our face, as if it’s a major 2A support on her part (see post above). The Castle Doctrine and Restaurant Carry bills were MUCH more beneficial to the ability of the NC residents to defend themselves. NC is way behind many other States on these two issues in particular. These are common, intuitive Constitutional Rights given to many other US residents. We will have the same people in office next year. What are we going to do different next year? If we wait until next year and start sending letters, email, and phone calls we will be setting here next July again. I think Ms Ross would love us to think ‘ah, well, maybe next year,’ just like some have year after year after year on the Restaurant Carry bill. |

I am really getting frustrated with this! I have e-mailed her as others above have and received the "thank you for your email, standard bull letters. I have contacted the NRA about this, but it seems they are to busy NOT doing anything of substance to try and block Sotomayor's being appointed! For those of you in wake county, maybe you can contact WRAL and show them the continued bs emails you are getting from Ross. Maybe you can write letters to the editor of Raleigh papers and explain what is going on! I agree with commentor who stated if she has done nothing this year, what makes you think she will do so next year! It is simple stall tactics. Sometime you just have to step out there and do what is right! Lets put the pressure on her in the news media!!! Please advise what you have done and what response you get from WRAL and Newspapers so we can put additional pressure on them! Its time to put up or shut up!!!!!

This bill made it through the Senate, readings, committees, and all in 51 days. It's been sitting in Ross's committee for 53 days as of today. Think I'll remind her of that!
Dear Rep. Ross, If you sincerely appreciate my email I repectfully ask that you schedule the Castle Doctrine to be heard in your committee. This bill made it through the Senate in 51 days from filing to passing it's 3rd reading. On the contrary it has sat in your committee now for 53 days from passing it's first House reading and being reffered to your committee. This is according to North Carolina General Assemble website. This is a bill that I am concerened about and I am recieving no representation if this bill sits unscheduled in your committee. Schedule this bill to be heard as soon as possible so that it can make it's way throught the House and the people of NC can recieve their due representation. Thank you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your email, Jason. Deborah -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Rep. Ross, As the Chairperson of Judiciary Committee I, I am asking that you schedule the Castle Doctrine bill to be heard in your committee as soon as possible. This is a very important piece of legislation for homowners in NC. Currently the law is not as clear as it should be and still leaves homeowners open to civil lawsuits. That is why we need to get the Castle Doctrine bill heard. I find it appalling that a criminal who breaks into a home seems to have more rights than the victim of his crime. I don't want to see homeowners victimized twice. Once by a criminal and again in a civil lawsuit. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, |

I spoke to Ms Ross' office today. She has no intention at this point of scheduling a Castle Doctrine Bill hearing.
Her reasoning was that she has a year to do it (it has passed the crossover deadline) and that it is too 'controversial' and will take up too much time. She feels she can schedule bills that will pass or fail quickly and 'get more done'. In other words, bills of no consequence. That's her 'story'. I also spoke with the NRA-ILA and they are currently lobbying to get the Castle Doctrine moved to a different committee for hearing. I am not very hopeful this bill will be heard this year, after my calls today. Last edited by calamityjane; 07-15-2009 at 11:10 PM. Reason: Added info. |

Please explain what will force Rep Ross to put this on the agenda next year, Ray. We will have the same people in the same places with the same ‘agenda’s’.
Our letter’s, emails, and phone calls have not worked, thus far. We’ll try our Tuesday morning calls. But ultimately, the only way I can think that we can get this bill heard next year is to start putting pressure on her re-election. That must come from the citizens of Wake County. I have contacted the Wake County Republican Party Chairman, Claude Pope. He would like to get together with anyone in Wake County that would like to see things change regarding the legislature there. He feels that we can work together to get Rep. Ross and others out (Sutton dropped 4 other important pro-gun bills this year) so we get our agenda moving forward. Claude Pope’s contact information is: Website |

I would be glad to meet with Ms Ross. I contacted her office, I am not in her district (Wake County), so she does not have time for me. I can't vote for or against her and am therefore not relevant to her. I went the the Wake County Republican Party and they time for anyone that would like to help get her out of office.
If someone from Wake County will get an appointment with her, I will be there. |
